Balducci’s is like, gone!

I don't really care that the pretentious overpriced gourmet bloat mart that Balducci's had become by birth of the naught-naughts is going the way of the passenger pigeon. But it is worth noting that at one time it was a really cool place to buy stuff that you could not get at your local farm stand or Stop & Shop.

So say goodbye to Balducci's and count the seconds until someone buys the brand and opens an online store...

Balducci’s Makes a Quiet Exit From Manhattan Times

It strikes me funny that they use the same stylized "B" in their logo as Boscov's uses. Boscov's is a local discount department store chain also in danger of going out of business.

It happens too often in the good food world, and the source of the demise is all too often - as noted in the article - hubris!

The title of this post reminded me of an old Zippy the Pinhead panel: a beatnik walks into a diner, says "I'll have some apple pie."

Waitress says "the apple pie is gone".

Beatnik says, "man, in that case, I'll have two pieces!"
