Show and Tell Dinner

The kids are away at camp, so for the next couple of weeks I get to cook dinner for only myself and my wife (when she is in town, she travels a lot). Here is a slide show of what I made last night. What did you make or eat for dinner last night? I'm curious.

I made linguine alla carbonara with home cured guanciale and fresh made pasta...

It could have only been better if I had grown the onions and garlic, collected the eggs and milked the cow, skimmed the cream...

Durn that would have been a lot more work...

I had a business dinner out in SF last night. We ate at an old-school place called the Tadich Grill.

No time for dinner last night - two hot dogs from a drive-thru on my way to a meeting. I'll just live through everybody else's dinners vicariously!

In my defense - let me say that I'll be making carnitas and sweet corn salsa for a bbq with friends I'll be going to this weekend. I'm also in charge of making the sangria and pear martinis.

We had left over Julia Child’s Syrian Salad of Cold Roast Beef, Anchovy Caper Sauce and Bulgur.

The pictures are the third and fourth from the bottom of this post:

Tonight we are having the Ham, seen in the last two pictures of that post. Meals got set back a day as fish got served on Tuesday.

By the way, I think I've found a way to hang a dry cured ham after the temperature goes up. I bought a wine cooler with will reach the mid 50s. I will report back on this but it will be a year or more. Two hams this fall.

i had chicken fingers, french fries and a glass of cheap wine at 4 pm. i normally don't eat chicken fingers (or eat that early), but we went to an early showing of "Journey to the Center of the Earth" in 3 D and had to grab a bite to eat.

to be honest, the chicken fingers weren't too bad. :)

Chicken thighs roasted on a bed of ciabatta and guanciale, cooled to room temp and tossed with romaine and parm shavings.

Duck sauteed and then braised with home-grown cabbage and balsamic vinegar, mixed with leftover lamb shanks which were cooked with homegrown flagolet beans and locally found morel mushrooms. My friend, Annie, sold me the lamb (she raises them for wool but cannot keep all the rams....). And yeah, it was all good....

Bob,
I'm working on an article on sandwiches for NPR at the moment, so last night I had a Mufaletta and tonight I'm having a Bahn Mi.

Va bene indeed!

It's been a rough week. I'd been cooking lightly and well, with fresh ingredients, earlier in the week. Had to eat out at the ballpark the last couple of days. Odd feeling - "full" yet not "nourished..."

Bought a PSMO (tenderloin) last week, so last night was petite filets with brown butter, sautéd green beans, and tomato concassé. There was good bread, unfortunately not homemade.
