Pig News

I'm too tired right now to spend a lot of words putting these photos into context. So, it'll have to suffice to say let the slides and the captions tell the story. Sorry, but I'm spent. I will say this though, pigs can be total pigs. I mean, how uncool is it for a new mother to refuse to feed her "babies" then try to eat the babies of the mother in the next pen? I suppose that pigs are not the only ones to behave this way (actually, I'm sure of it) but still, it's hard to watch.

Sigh.

I nominate the crazy pig to be the "star" of your next set of sausages.

Post partum depression? That's only partway in jest. Her hormones are probably all screwed up.

But no matter what the underlying cause, she's not good breeding stock. She needs to be culled. Mmmm....sausage.

I'm thinking this is classic Republican behavior.

According to Sy Montgomery's "good good pig" a mother will often bite the runt in half because they make a lot of noise.

The reason for that is that they're underfed because the other siblings push it out of the way at teatime and the constant complaining draws predators.

Predators. Now that's classic Republican behavior.

Pigs are evil. I have to explain this to vegetarians all the time. Given the chance, pigs will kill you and eat you. Out of all the animals we eat, its probably the "fairest" fight.

P.S. I grew up on a hog farm. I guess I was a swineherd as well.

Pigs kill more people than sharks. Word.

Republican? Wow, now some of us have to get "political" with farm animals? If I recall correctly, The "pigs" were Orwell's Commie bosses, weren't they? Hardly Republican in my book.

Put down your beer goggles and read what Skawt said.

He said "I'm thinking this is classic Republican behavior."

Behavior is not a farm animal. And the farm animals you speak of are from the 1930s.

The behavior he spoke of is along the lines of the ultimate Republican - Joe Luter of Smithfield Foods. Much more current than Orwell, and very much alive.

Of course, Ben is still right to assert that a food blog should not be politicized.

Thats all I meant, Tags, was why politics? And I also tried to be funny which didn't work so well.
